A troubled teenager (Magdalena) goes against her mother’s wishes in an attempt to gain more independence. She decides to spend some time with boys (Neizan and Brais) she does not know very well as an escape. When her friendly neighbor (Pablo) enters the scene, he offers Magdalena an opportunity to leave with him. Unfortunately, she allows her insecurities to take over and decides to stay with the boys instead. As a result, she is pressured by the boys into taking drugs and suffers from a near death experience which takes her on an unexpected, spiritual journey. When Magdalena reappears, she has a new view on life.

The cinema at the Finis Terrae Commercial Center in Cee, La Coruña, was filled to capacity this past Friday for the film premiere of “O Amparo da Xunqueira" (also known as “Magdalena’s Waltz” for English-speaking audiences). Surpassing all expectations, those that gathered at the theater for both the morning and afternoon viewings were buzzing with excitement over the new Spanish release produced by Northern Sky Films (NSF), together with SensorMedia Group for the Association Amigos da Xunqueira.
The breathtaking landscape of the northern Galician coast in Spain, the charming local streets of Cee, the abandoned whaling factory in Caneliñas and the lush magical forests of Dumbría, all come together to form the ideal backdrop for the development of this story. The highly professional team at NSF, formed by Roberto Beltrán, Pavel Oreshnikov and Toño Casais, offer a perfect product to send to film festivals all over the world due to the universal theme that runs throughout the film. The paths that are open to you in adolescence are infinite. When it comes to choosing friends and making life decisions in general, knowing which path to follow is always complicated. “O Amparo da Xunquiera” is a suspenseful film masterfully interpretted by the very talented Ana Oca, who is in a league of her own.
Ana, who plays the title role of Magdalena, is joined by veteran local actor Toño Casais, as well as, Mónica Vilela, Jimmy Núñez, Alberto Abal, Sergio Abelaira, Lola Casais, Anuska Vázquez and Desiré Kouakou. In short, congratulations to all of those who formed this talented team and helped bring to life this special film, entirely produced on our beautiful coast.
